Places to start learning more about after-school in California:

California Department of Education—Before & After School

    • The department has released applications for 21st Century Community Learning Centers funding. There are separate applications for elementary/middle school and high school programs. Both applications are due on March 12, 2007. More information about 21st CCLC is available from the state and U.S. departments of education.
    • The state has earmarked a portion of its 21st CCLC funds for high school after-school programs under the 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) Program.
    • The department has posted the list of new and transitional ASES grantees.

Bay Area Partnership for Children and Youth
Bay Area Partnership has an array of NEW materials, including an overview of 21st CCLC funding, tools to support the 21st CCLC application process and information on successful models for high school programs.


California Afterschool Network

Want to learn more about afterschool programs and state funding in your area or across the state? Locating Afterschool in California is a study from the California Afterschool Network and Center for Community School Partnerships (U.C. Davis School of Education) that focuses on questions such as the extent to which state and federal afterschool funds are reaching communities that need them, geographical patterns of need and access and what programs already exist at the local and regional levels.
